Jim Crawley
|
|
|
|
|
Jim Crawley has worked for over 35 years in the Lifelong Learning sector, in adult and community learning, teacher education, professional development and basic skills. Jim co-ordinated the Lifelong Learning teacher education programme for twelve years, and is programme leader for the Adult and Tertiary Education MA pathway at Bath Spa University and a Teaching Fellow at the University. He has authored: ‘In at the Deep End: a survival guide for teachers in Post Compulsory Education’ (2010), and a wide range of papers, reports and conference contributions in topics including Adult and Community Education, Teacher Education and Learning Technology.
He is chair of the Post-16 Committee of the Universities’ Council for the Education of teachers (UCET); convenor of the new national research network (Teacher Education in Lifelong Learning -TELL); Chair of South West Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training and Convenor of the SW Regional Teacher Educators’ Forum. Jim has just submitted his PhD thesis on ‘the professional situation of teacher educators in the Lifelong Learning sector’.

Ann is a director of her own company Ann Gravells Ltd, an educational consultancy based in East Yorkshire. She specialises in teaching, training and quality assurance for the Further Education and Skills Sector. Ann has written and co-written 12 educational text books aimed at new teachers. The books are written in an accessible language and are based on the requirements of the teacher training qualifications.
Ann is a consultant to The University of Cambridge’s Institute of Continuing Education. She has worked for several Awarding Organisations producing qualification guidance, policies and procedures, and carrying out quality assurance of teacher training qualifications. She has been teaching in further education colleges since 1983. Ann holds a Masters in Educational Management, a PGCE, a Degree in Education, and a City & Guilds Medal of Excellence for teaching. Ann is a Fellow of the Institute for Learning and holds QTLS status.

Dr John Lea

John has taught in FE, AE and HE over the last thirty years, and is currently Assistant Director of Learning and Teaching at Canterbury Christ Church University. From 2005-2011, John was Vice-Chair, then Chair of the Universities' Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET) Post-16 Committee, and is currently a co-opted member of the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) Executive Committee, as an advisor on the HE/FE interface, which is his current research interest. He is the author of Working in Post-Compulsory Education (2003), Political Correctness and Higher Education: British & American Perspectives (2009), and 77 Things to Think About...Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (2012). |

Dr Matt O'Leary

|
Matt is a Principal Lecturer & Research Fellow in post-compulsory education in the Centre for Research and Development in Lifelong Education (CRADLE) at the School for Education Futures, University of Wolverhampton. He has worked as a teacher/teacher educator and educational researcher for 20 years. During that time he has taught in primary and secondary schools, FE Colleges and universities in the UK, Mexico and Spain.
Matt's research interests are rooted in teacher development, particularly exploring the relationship between educational policy and the practice of teachers working in the post-compulsory sector. His recent research, featured in the IfL's Intuition magazine in 2012, has examined the role of classroom observation in shaping professional identity, motivation and development of teachers in FE. Matt's book 'Classroom Observation: A Guide to the effective observation of teaching and learning' was published in July 2013.

Dr Kevin Orr

|
|
Kevin has worked at the University of Huddersfield as a senior lecturer in post-compulsory education and training since 2006 and leads the University of Huddersfield’s flexible Continuing Professional Development Framework courses. He taught in Further Education (FE) colleges, mainly on ESOL and teacher education provision, for sixteen years before joining the University and maintains a keen interest in FE. In November 2009, Kevin was awarded a PhD for his thesis entitled College Cultures and Pre-Service Trainee Teachers: a study in the creation and transmission of ideas about teaching.
Kevin's first degree was in History and French from the University of Manchester and he later went on to study for a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and the Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults. He completed an MA by research at Manchester Metropolitan in 2005, which considered the impact of policy on FE teaching practice. Kevin is currently studying for an MSc in Social Research Methods and Statistics at the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research at the University of Manchester.

John Perry is an inspirational speaker and originator of the Three-Dimensional Approach to Stress Management; an experienced teacher, counsellor, coach, university lecturer and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
John has published widely in the areas of mentoring, stress management, counselling skills training, curriculum design and experiential learning, and led on numerous FE management and teaching development events.
John’s portfolio also includes a successful consultancy track-record as a well-being consultant to a number of world-class companies such as Sony UK, HSBC and Disney. He is currently a Principal Teaching Fellow in Healthcare Communication within the Faculty of Medicine at Southampton University.

Mike is one of the UK's leading experts in evidence-based teaching methods who works closely with Geoff Petty to support schools and colleges across the UK to improve teaching and learning.
Mike set up the Evidence-Based Teachers Network (EBTN) which now has over 2000 members (www.ebtn.org.uk), and in collaboration with Mediamerge Ltd, produces video materials on how teachers can implement ‘what works’ in the classroom.
He has more than 10 years of experience teaching in science in secondary school settings, and has advised numerous further education colleges on teacher improvement strategies and recovering under-achieving departments.

Once your booking form has been received by us and we have acknowledged your booking, this constitutes a legally binding agreement.
If cancellation is confirmed in writing more than 28 working days before the event, fees will be refunded, minus an administration charge of £50.00 + VAT (Please note this has been updated and replaces all previous cancellation statements on our printed literature).
We regret that no refund can be made after that date, for whatever reason, although substitutions will be accepted if notified in writing before the event.
Bookings made within 28 days of the event are non-refundable.
